From “Blah.” to “Spa!”
Rebirth of a Residential Bath
From “Blah.” to “Spa!” with a Tile Transformation
Helen Moore’s bathroom is a spa-like retreat awash in a fresh, natural canvas of beautiful tile. From the soft, artful blend of the floor’s border patterns that gently envelope generously proportioned field tile to the textural touches that artfully climb the shower walls, this private retreat is a showcase of tile’s trans-formative powers.
To see this inspired space now, it’s hard to imagine it wasn’t always so light and bright. Before its tile transformation, this bathroom had limestone floors that needed updating , and the overall look was nice enough—though nothing stand-out.
Of course, that floor sparked the need for a floor-to-ceiling, intensive redesign of the space. The homeowner entrusted the project to Nashville Interior Designer Landy Gardner, making a outdated bathroom an opportunity to create her dream bathroom.
Mission Stone & Tile was Landy’s first stop when it came to reinventing the space. In the Mission showroom, Landy and the homeowner surveyed a treasure trove of imaginative tiles until a particular border pattern caught their eyes. The chosen border is an ordered mosaic of oval shapes blending an earthly yet ethereal color palette that ultimately inspired the bath’s entire redesign.
With the unique border and large format field tile as the foundation, Landy invented a sophisticated, breathable bathroom that uses tile’s style to the utmost advantage. The interplay of shapes, textures, sizes and tonal colors keeps things interesting while achieving spatial harmony. The large tiles are balanced by unique details to make the room open and cozy all at once.
A residential bath reborn… Another Mission accomplished!
1 CommentRetro Rewind: Bathroom Edition
We have recently had a lot of requests for vintage or retro tile selections. Either customers want that vintage look, or they are trying to make their bathroom compliment the era of their older home. I find the vintage or retro look charming, and it is even possible to update your current retro bathroom to a more handsome looking retro or vintage bathroom minus the 60’s “Pepto pink” or mauve and maroon tiles.
Subway tiles have been popular for centuries, and this bathroom features a more unique look with the subway tiles on the bathroom floor in a brick joint.
These subway tiles run horizontally from the floor up to the ceiling, and are combined with a farm house style wood vanity, paired with two vintage mirrors that add a little more character to an all white setting.
Of course, one can never go wrong with carrara marble. This option is a classical choice, and creates a retro look in the form of subway and hexagon tiles.
Take a look at this blogger’s Retro Bathroom Renovation, from teal to a look to steal! The homeowners have incorporated the classic white subway tiles, and the white hexagon with rosettes on the floor.

1 CommentUpdate! Check Out the Calacatta Installation!
You may remember a few weeks ago, our customer who was building a Model Home needed some design expertise on the Master Bathroom. He wanted a luxury look on a budget, and we accomplished this with our Calacatta Porcelain Tile. We were afraid the pattern of the Calacatta may appear too busy, but after the installation was complete, we are very pleased with the outcome!
After viewing the bathroom installation we are also able to reveal our kitchen installation! The Carrara subway tiles work beautifully with the espresso cabinets and stainless features. You can utilize a classic Carrara or Calacatta marble in a more contemporary setting which creates a timeless look. Be sure to stop by our showroom to see if you can tell the difference between the Calacatta Porcelain Tile and the real thing!

Leave a commentTop Remodeling Trends for 2011
A new consumer poll from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) revealed 49 percent of homeowners consider outcome and design as the greatest determinant of project satisfaction.
“Today’s homeowners are smarter and more strategic when it comes to remodeling their homes,” says NARI National President-Elect Michael Hydeck, MCR, CKBR, of Hydeck Design Build, Inc. “They want their design to cater perfectly to their lifestyles and how they intend to use the space.”
According to CBS Moneywatch.com, here are the top remodeling trends for 2011.
1. Save Money: Remodel Your Bathroom. 2011 is the year for a bathroom update. Baths cost less than a kitchen or addition and most houses have more than one bath, so there are more available to be remodeled.
2. Must-Do Remodeling Projects. More and more people will complete projects that “have-to” be done instead of “want-to” projects. ** I can totally relate to this. I’ve got some major drywall repair that has to be done, whereas I want to repaint my entire house. Looks like the drywall project comes first.
3. Warming Up The House. Warmer tiles and colors are coming back. People are moving away from white designs in favor of cozier, earth tones.
4. Getting Decked Out. People are wanting to sit outside again and are staying at home more often. Hence, an increase in deck space and swimming pools.
5. Hiring A Great Contractor. Consumer are starting to take a closer look at the companies they are considering for their next project.
6. Paying in Cash. Rather than taking out loans, homeowners are using cash for projects. One way to save money is by updating features, like cabinets, but not remodel an entire room.
7. Opening Up Rooms: Open floor plans help families be more flexible with the square footage they already have.
8. Bronze Age. Along the with warmer tones in homes are warmer tones in metallic features.

9. Going Green. Bamboo floors, grass thatched roofs and bark siding are just a few of the newest green home products. In addition, people are getting energy efficiency upgrades.
10. Industrial Flair. Exposed beams will continue to be popular, as will stainless steel cable and architectural products.
11. Creating Relaxation Space: With homeowners more stressed than ever, it’s no surprise that when they are developing new spaces, tranquility comes to mind. Homeowners are looking for spaces to be relaxing and soothing.
12. Planning ahead: “As some homeowners are aging, they are thinking ahead and putting in easy-opening cabinetry, hand-held showers, and more accessible kitchens and baths.
Are you planning to remodel a room or house this year? If so, what room and how much are you planning to spend?
